AI Procurement
Community of Interest (AIP CoI)
The AI Procurement Community of Interest serves as a collaborative, ‘big tent’ platform for all interested parties, including professionals in legal, finance, risk management, and service ownership, to discuss critical issues.
We have also partnered with Apolitical to host a more specialised AIP Community of Practice, as part of their 'Innovative Procurement' community. This is a neutral environment for public servants to connect, learn, and share with peers in the global public service.
Key discussion areas
Our expert AI Procurement Team has been exploring AI since its emergence in public and near-public sector policy narrative and guidance. We have been advising small, medium and large businesses, and public and near-public sector organisations about what to consider when:
- Bridging the knowledge and skills gap in understanding AI Procurement: we have developed new and appropriate terminology for AI Procurement and Contracting.
- Addressing issues around data quality, security, supplier lock-in, and ethical considerations: this helps users navigating the opportunities and challenges of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
- Engaging the AI industry to solve problems and deliver policy outcomes: we have developed approaches to properly engage with AI providers and suppliers so buyers can navigate this space in a compliant and legal way, and structure contracts for AI capabilities.
- Developing organisational standards: we share our insights and have created standards and playbooks for effective and responsible AI Procurement, particularly within the public sector which faces unique legal and accountability standards.

What we stand for
The AI Procurement Community of Interest (AIP CoI) is an open, collaborative forum for individuals and organisations across the public, private, social, and research sectors interested in the ethical and effective procurement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies. The community was established to address the pressing challenges and opportunities of acquiring AI systems, providing guidance and facilitating discussion in a complex landscape. The key goals of the AIP CoI include:
- Knowledge Sharing: Providing a space for participants to learn about AI procurement, share experiences, and tackle common problems.
- Ethical Guidance: Emphasising the importance of integrating ethical considerations, data protection, and social value into AI purchasing decisions.
- Best Practices: Highlighting compliant, innovative, and efficient delivery models for procuring AI technologies within government and other sectors.
- Addressing Gaps: Working to bridge knowledge and skill deficits, navigate complex legislation, and manage critical challenges like data security and cultural resistance to new technologies.
